Dwight Morrow, an investment banker, and financier. That group hasn't changed a bit since the 1930s.

Good reference for both UK Exams

This book caught my attention, as I noted that it was being written by several Big Names in Psychiatry, including Professor Puri himself.
Indeed, after getting my purchased book, I was not disappointed at all.
There were sufficient questions to cover all the different topics tested in the Royal College of Psychiatrists UK examinations.
In addition, there were mock exams, which came in handy prior to the actual examinations.
There were cross reference to Professor Puri textbook, which helped to improve my understanding of certain concepts.

A well-planned and organized book, with good databank of questions.
A must-get for psychiatry trainees.

Bought this to strengthen my knowledge base for my ABPN.
The questions were of good quality and helpful and reinforcing in important material.
Not really a necessity for US as this book was written for UK examinees but if you're a perfectionist who need to 'know-it all'

I just skipped few questions not pertinent for my USA training,but the majority of the questions are universal.

Great techniques overview.

While it doesn't go into enough detail for actual projects I liked it especially for the chapter on mixed media which showed me ideas on mixing acrylic with mediums like oil pastels etc. Just be aware it is an overview not a how to book. As a book on all the possibilities for using acrylics this is great.

A Great Present for Your Acrylic Artist

This was a Christmas present for my wife who has just started classes for acrylic painting. She loves this book. She has used the book to buy the right paints, equipment and brushes. She takes the book to class and uses the color sections to help get the right shades for her paintings.

This book is spiral bound and sturdy. It fits perfectly in he painter's bag and travels with her whenever she paints. As she is developing ideas, she turns to this reference for tips and techniques.

I do not always hit the mark with presents for my wife, but this time I hit it out of the park.

Middle school student Greg Heffley takes readers through an academic year's worth of drama. Greg's mother forces him to keep a diary ("I know what it says on the cover, but when Mom went out to buy this thing I specifically told her to get one that didn't say 'diary' on it"), and in it he loosely recounts each day's events, interspersed with his comic illustrations. Kinney has a gift for believable preteen dialogue and narration (e.g., "Don't expect me to be all 'Dear Diary' this and 'Dear Diary' that"), and the illustrations serve as a hilarious counterpoint to Greg's often deadpan voice. The hero's utter obliviousness to his friends and family becomes a running joke. For instance, on Halloween, Greg and his best friend, Rowley, take refuge from some high school boys at Greg's grandmother's house; they taunt the bullies, who then T.P. her house. Greg's journal entry reads, "I do feel a little bad, because it looked like it was gonna take a long time to clean up. But on the bright side, Gramma is retired, so she probably didn't have anything planned for today anyway." Kinney ably skewers familiar aspects of junior high life, from dealing with the mysteries of what makes someone popular to the trauma of a "wrestling unit" in gym class. This print version is just as engaging. Kinney does a masterful job of making the mundane life of boys on the brink of adolescence hilarious. Greg is a conflicted soul: he wants to do the right thing, but the constant quest for status and girls seems to undermine his every effort. His attempts to prove his worthiness in the popularity race (he estimates he's currently ranked 52nd or 53rd) are constantly foiled by well-meaning parents, a younger and older brother, and nerdy friends. While Greg is not the most principled protagonist, it is his very obliviousness to his faults that makes him such an appealing hero. Kinney's background as a cartoonist is apparent in this hybrid book that falls somewhere between traditional prose and graphic novel. It offers some of the same adventures as the Web book, but there are enough new subplots to entertain Funbrain followers. This version is more pared down, and the pace moves quickly. The first year in the middle-school life of Greg Heffley is chronicled in this laugh-out-loud novel that first appeared on the Internet. Greg tells his story in a series of short, episodic chapters. Most revolve around the adolescent male curse: the need to do incredibly dumb things because they seem to be a good idea at the time. Yet, unlike some other books about kids of this age, there's no sense of a slightly condescending adult writer behind the main character. At every moment, Greg seems real, and the engrossed reader will even occasionally see the logic in some of his choices. Greatly adding to the humor are Kinney's cartoons, which appear on every page. The simple line drawings perfectly capture archetypes of growing up, such as a preschool-age little brother, out-of-touch teachers, and an assortment of class nerds. Lots of fun throughout. Great memory book for your child's keepsakes

This particular purchase was a gift for a friends son, but I still have my 12 year olds sons book from 4 years ago. It's full of stories to be completed by your child and so funny to look back on when they're older. The hardback is very durable, has held up through a crazy (now 12 years old, as the photo shows:) ) boys toting it around and a move. I'll be holding on to this forever.

Very popular book for two of my kids. My 15 year old wanted this set when he was in the third grade and now my daughter who is a 3rd grader wants these as well. My son was very behind in reading and these kept his attention and had enough drawings to keep him interested. My daughter is an A/B Honor roll student who enjoys reading and these keep her attention as well. Cute, funny stories that are pretty age appropriate; although reading then as a mother...I do catch some words like stupid, etc.... that I don't care for. I'm willing to let that slide - just to make sure my children are reading..... as opposed to being illiterate. Nice boxed, hardcover set...maybe they will last until the 4 year old is in the 3rd grade!?!? :-) A little overpriced around the holidays but worth it in the whole scheme of things. I'd rather buy pricey books that other junky toys!

My 6 year old son began reading "Wimpy Kid" books just as he was learning to read. Many times I would allow him to read before bed and would hear him laughing hysterically in his room. Now, 7 years old, he has read all of them and often will pick them up and read them again. They are silly, but the appeal to his age demographic was actually amazing to me. I didn't have to make him read... he wanted to read. And he loved them all. I would recommend the entire series to any parent of a child who is learning and becoming comfortable with reading comprehension.

It helps to see what you already deep down know in your heart to be true...it validates all the feelings that you have. For those of you that are dependant on men for completion...get this book.

A very painful divorce and a subsequent tumultuous relationship forced me to face issues I had never faced from my childhood. I read book after book and there were many that helped to uncover what was underneath the behaviors I had developed. But of all the books, I consider this meditation book for Women Who Love Too Much to be my handbook for survival and true change. Whenever I feel myself slipping, I pick up the book and read it from cover to cover. I have many pages dog-eared that are particularly appropriate. I can't recommend it enough.

I loved reading this book daily. Some meditations did not "really apply" for my situation but they made me think. It made me realize a lot of things, and I even used some thoughts as quotes that I sent to friends via email. I must say that it is a little book with a lot of wisdom.

Very Helpful in Practice - Much Deeper than a Reference Guide

I have been developing Hadoop-based solutions for over two years, and I typically refer to two books - Tom White's book, "Hadoop: The Definitive Guide" which is a nice overview and a reference, and Alex Holmes' book, "Hadoop In Practice" which provides more context.

After reading this book, I can say that Professional Hadoop Solutions does a very nice job at applying depth to some areas that are not covered elsewhere - or are covered very lightly in other material. This book starts with three chapters on MapReduce programming, which I have found helpful and provides deep insight. The first chapter is more of an intro, but the next two go deeper - and this is very useful. Oozie is covered in-depth in three chapters, and not too many books cover it - Oozie is critical to understand when you are developing practical, large-scale processing systems with Hadoop & when you are orchestrating lots of MR jobs. I found the chapters on security to be practical and helpful - something that is often not covered in other books. I'm glad that Hadoop on AWS is covered, but I wish that real-time Hadoop was covered more - although this is certainly a new area.

In all, this book covers practical Hadoop development in depth, and it is done clearly. I will point out that this is not a book that is simply an introduction and a reference guide (If you need that, I would use Hadoop: the Definitive Guide, which is great for that purpose), but this book goes deep, and it is one that helps me deal with practical problems. It has already helped me and I highly recommend it.

Thoughtful style

I like this book for a thoughtful stile. It is not simply fragments of code, but it always tries (and manages) to explain why it is done this way. For me it is very important because I am not good in memorizing names and facts, but appreciate logic. It is very rare and great way to write books. I highly recommend this book (though not as an introduction).

Excellent but sloppy

This book covers a niche that few others have in that it treats Hadoop as a framework rather than an application. It dives in depth into various parts of it and explains how to solve problems you may not have even known about. It also has three chapters on Oozie, a topic which is all but ignored in other publications.

This book should have five stars and a glowing recommendation, but it is in dire need of editing. There are a ton of typos (even in source code), and some of the code samples are broken. One chapter describes how to build a dynamic Oozie workflow and the source they provided does not work and never could have since they are missing an XSD file reference entirely. When I added the reference it still did not work. This was very frustrating when I tried to implement this solution on a deadline.

The book focuses on the eastern empire, from Greece proper to modern-day Turkey and Egypt, between the second and sixth centuries CE. Using some of the tools provided by modern performance theory, this book explains how audiences interpreted the actions on stage, how the status of male and female performers shifted across time and place, how skilled the actors actually were (it was commonplace to dismiss these performers for their lack of skill), and what role spectacles involving spoken and sung words, as well as stylized gestures, had in Greco-Roman civic life.

One of the most visible remains a tourist finds in the ruined cities of the Roman Empire is a stone-built theater with a huge seating capacity, and he may wonder what productions were staged there that attracted such great audiences; gladiatorial combats, sometimes, and even wild beast fights in the eastern empire, where cities generally lacked amphitheaters, But the specialty of the theater was mime and pantomime, with music and dancing, Much of the evidence belongs to late antiquity, the general neglect of which makes this book all the more important. Mimes were skits with both male and female entertainers, and pantomimes were generally men, whose dancing interpreted a story that might be recited or sung by a performer accompanied by musicians, Webb describes the production companies, the place of theater in society, and the art of the pantomime, a dancer who could impersonate a man or a woman as the story required. Dancers could be enormously popular, but society ranked them low on the social scale, and the church considered the theater a haunt of the devil. Indispensable guide to a big part of late Roman civic life

It has long been understood how important in the later Roman empire were the arts of mime (broad farce) and pantomime (solo dance drama, apparently something like Japanese Noh theater). However, the actual nature of the performances and the reasons for the intense feelings they raised, among both fans and critics, have not been much explored. In fact, the only other book-length studies I am aware of are Margaret Molloy's Libanius and the Dancers and Charlotte Roueche's Performers and Partisans at Aphrodisias in the Roman and Late Roman Periods, both of which are more specialized besides being difficult to find. Webb approaches the topic both from the inside (determining, as far as possible from ancient representations and modern parallels, what the performers were doing) and the outside (how the theater was perceived, most notably by Christian writers who saw it as a hotbed of immorality). She only touches on partisanship and claques, which are more fully dealt with by Roueche and by Alan Cameron in Circus Factions.

It may be going too far to say that this is an important book, given the esoteric nature of its subject matter, but certainly it is a valuable addition to the literature on late antiquity and the history of theater.
