It's Shakespeare; who are we to critique the writing?

Although it's been more than 40 years since I graduated with a degree in English and I've retired from a non-literary career in government, I still read Shakespeare on a regular basis. I'm updating my collection with volumes that will fit into my backpack for travel. This edition fits nicely and the binding protects it from being bent better than a paperback.

but this is an excellent starting

it helps tremendously having notes and context side by aide to the text. there's also a lengthy introduction about the story, language and Bard himself.

If you're a beginner you will still have to put a lot of effort in, and you will likely need other resources as well, but this is an excellent starting text

Frustrating kindle experience (notes poorly done, no navigation)

Unfortunately, with most of the professional Shakespeare editions (Folgers, Penguin, etc), the digital "sample" you download only gives you the introduction, which tells you nothing of the formatting of the play itself. Since that formatting is essential to your reading experience, this is quite frustrating -- I thought it would be worth giving a brief review to warn other users off.

Given that all of Shakespeare's works are in the public domain, I'd like to think someone would have put together nice kindle editions of them. Given the strong reviews, I thought this might be it (also, I have my students reading the print version of this edition, so it seemed like a logical choice). Alas, my search for a decent kindle experience continues.

On the positive side, the lines of this play work well on a KindleDX, so the basic reading experience is comfortable.

On the minus side, they've done extraordinarily little work to convert this book into a Kindle book.

To start with, they didn't even take the time to format acts and scenes as chapters, so there's no way to quickly navigate the text except to search for "I.iii" or what have you (or a famous line in a scene that you happen to remember!). The table of contents consists simply of "Title Page", "Copyright Page", "Introduction" and the play. The "notes" (on the bottom of each page in the print edition) are included as raw text in the kindle edition. There's no way to make the kindle page line up with the print page (even though with the DX this might be physically possible), so the notes just appear as a blob now and again, which makes them awkward to use if not useless. Furthermore, the notes refer to "line numbers" which are not included in the text. The lack of line numbers is also frustrating for people trying to use the kindle edition to interact with a class where the print edition is standard. Having line numbers is to my mind quite essential if you're going to be working with the text with others.

The play, of course, is wonderful, and this edition makes it easy to read with just enough notes to help the reasonably experienced reader along (I find these editions much less annoying than the Folger's editions, which have an overwhelming number of notes).

About the Author
Khartika Goe has evolved from a rigorous academic background into ardently writing on the unknown and the mysteries of the universe. She recently went public with her own accounts of dimensional travel in her groundbreaking article, "Adventures in Alternative Realities," which was published in 16 languages and sold in more than 30 countries by Nexus magazine. Khartika completed her undergraduate degree at the University of California-Los Angeles and pursued graduate studies at Columbia University in the City of New York before embarking on her research on metaphysical dimensions. This is a Most Worthwhile Book!

I purchased this book after I heard the author being interviewed. Since my reading of William Buhlman's books, I have wanted to have lucid out of body experiences. This book promised to help me with this. After reading just a short amount of this book, I have made some progress, but am not there yet, and am still reading it. I am quite sure that this is the book to get me where I desire to go. What it does that I have not found other books to do, is it teaches how important it is and how to raise your vibration. Older books, like Buhlman's make no mention of this. I suggest this is vitally necessary.

I now realize this is a good book for my aged mother who is now reaching the point where she has out of body experiences every time she has a health failure. I will recommend this book for her to read, because I feel if she doesn't have some kind of experience mastering out of body/energetic experiences, she could end up in an undesirable place when she passes. The church has kept this knowledge from us. But they certainly do know about this. Shame on 'em.

I thing that I have done for a few years is I talk to the trees, etc., but mainly the trees, near the back of my garden. I tell them that some day, I don't know when, things will be better for them, there will be no pollution and they will have a much healthier life. I promise them that, I send them love. And I tell them other things, but mostly I send them love. I don't do that often enough, but I will increase my conversations with them because of this book. That being said, I want to tell you a story about 'my' trees.

I am aware we need the sun for health reasons. But my back yard is in the south and behind my back yard is the forest where my tries are. They mostly block the sun. So one day, I told them, I need more sunlight, I won't have your limbs cut down, because you are a sentient being, and I would not do that without your permission. And since if I thought you had given me permission, this could also be wishful thinking on my part, so I just can't have some of your limbs cut down unless I was sure you had agreed to it.

Not even a week, maybe 4 or 5 days, we had a minor storm. Afterwords my husband noticed the trees directly south of my garden, "my" trees and told me, "well, I guess you got your wish, the trees have several fallen branches." No other trees in my complex or surrounding area had branches fallen but "my" beloved trees. Wow, I thought, 'my' trees appreciate and love me that much. I was amazed.

I must say that Khartika is an example of the loving being we must all become especially for these dark times the Earth has entered into. This is a most worthwhile book, an easy pleasant read, and one is likely to excel spiritually by reading it and following its suggestions.

Achieving Higher Physical, Emotional, Psycho-social, Universalist and Spiritual States of Being

"The Multidimensional Traveler" by Goe is a wonderful book about traversing the universe without physical limits of any kind. Goe speaks about an advanced state of awareness which only those with a disciplined mind can achieve. People who die in a state of high stress or commit suicide may wander around as aimless souls for eternity.

This book documents the spiritual mind at the time of death. In fact, nurses and medical personnel have attested to a golden orb which appears in some patients at the time of death. Goe describes how dreams are the perfect forum for communicating with dead loved ones. A high state of relaxation allows us to escape to places we've never visited or to travel into the future. Even levitation may be achieved by reaching the proper vibrational frequencies.

This book can help people live longer more productive lives by de-stressing and applying some of the techniques taught. Centenarians are known for having a definitive purpose in life, being active physically, having a spiritual connection, eating healthfully and having a positive philosophy or mindset during life. Overall, this book is highly recommended.

What an outstanding book !!! This type of subject can be very difficult to comprehend especially if someone has not had an out of body or inner dimensional experiences. In fact if someone has not had this type of experience it will appear that it is unbelievable. But just have a one event occur and you will be able to glean exactly what Khartika Goe is referencing. Additionally if the reader thinks that this planet is the only reality then they will totally, did I mention totally, not understand what Ms. Goe is speaking about. I've had many metaphysical experiences in my life so I completely comprehend what Ms. Goe is speaking about.

I would urge individuals to read Ms. Goe's book. The information contained and the manner she explains how to travel multi-dimensionally is absolutely incredible, concise and succinct. It reads as if you are in the same room with her and having literally, an out of this world conversation. This should be on the bookcase of every metaphysical student and student science and quantum physics. This is more than a book,...its a study guide and discourse. I've let the information roam around in me organically paying attention to what is occurring in my inner topography. A Starter for German Conversations

We purchased the book to help a friend learn some German so as to be able to talk with her German-speaking granddaughter. While Steve's book is mainly for the adult traveler, it served as a starting point for conversations between our friend and my wife, who is a native German speaker. There may be better books aimed for those who need a general introduction to the German language.

Sample pronunciations need work

This was a helpful book, and I liked the small size. It's difficult to figure out the correct way to pronounce the words. The "cheater" pronunciations need help. A German/English speaker was helping me with the language, and there were times that she told me the pronunciation in the book was wrong, or at the very best misleading. Otherwise, it did have a nice section on the food, transportation, and funny things like slang words. If you already have an idea of how to pronounce German words, you'll love this book.

We witness the founders' invasion and attempted conquest of Canada and the "conquest" of Pennsylvania as Quakers and German pietists were deprived of citizenship rights and despoiled of property through armed force and legal trickery. British sympathies were so strong that George III had to hire Hessians as soldiers because he could not trust his own people. And Britain also had movements for reform that won freedom of the press and refusal to legislate slavery while the Revolutionaries tarred and feathered their opponents and strengthened the slavery institution. Revolutionary rhetoric about liberty and virtue is revealed as war propaganda. Illegal "committees" and "conventions" functioned like soviets of the later Russian revolution. The U.S. Constitution was the fulfillment of the Revolution rather than its "Thermidor." The work is meticulously documented and detailed. By including the whole population in its history, Jennings provides an eloquent explanation for a host of anomalies, ambiguities, and iniquities that have followed in the Revolution's wake.

A longstanding historian of colonial America, Jennings (Benjamin Franklin, Politician, etc.), the former director of the Center for the History of the American Indian at the Newberry Library, is tired of the traditional celebratory story of the American Revolution. "My book," he writes, "is an effort to tell the Revolution for adults." Jennings examines nearly every aspectAregion by region; battle by battle; and through the eyes of Indians, the British and the colonists. Along the way, he nimbly demonstrates that the colonists, though they claimed to be fighting for liberty, were fighting for the sort of liberty that didn't extend to Native Americans or black slaves. Hardly disinterested servants of the public good, he further argues, the founding fathers were politicians looking out for their own interests. Indeed, they weren't fighting for abstract principles; the colonists didn't, in truth, favor a democratic republic over an empire. To the contrary, according to Jennings, they were very devoted to the idea of empireAthey simply wanted to run it themselves rather than "acting as agents for Great Britain." Throughout, Jennings looks especially at they ways in which ideas about race helped the colonists justify certain kinds of conquest. And although he does not say much that has not been argued dozens of times before, his synthesis is provocative, useful and clearly stated. (Sept.)

From the conventional view of the American Revolution as a struggle of oppressed colonists throwing off the yoke of royal tyranny, Jennings begs to differ. He asks readers to adopt the perspective of the many enslaved African Americans and marginalized American Indians. From their viewpoint, colonists' talk of liberty and equality rang hollow. Those high-sounding sentiments were little more than war propaganda, for their lands and their persons were either confiscated or enslaved by these very "freedom fighters." Starting with the founding of the colonies, Jennings documents the European settlers' determination to create empires. It took a few decades until they came to see their empire as distinct from Britain's. Early North American maps with their undefined boundaries reveal the western pretensions and breadth of the colonists' claims. A detailed account of the less idealistic economic and political motivations that inspired the American Revolution.Respected and controversial historian Jennings (Benjamin Franklin, Politician, 1996, etc.) again subjects the conventions surrounding the creation of the US to intense scrutiny. He argues that early historians gloss over the complexities of the Revolutionary War in favor of creating idealistic and romantic revolutionary figures: for instance, George Washington's shady manipulation of the courts to secure himself vast tracts of land disappears when traditional historians cast him as a righteous and virtuous republican founder. By exposing the hypocrisy inherent in many of these national myths, the author documents an American Revolution where personal economic and political aspirations fuel secessionist fervor. This transforms the celebrated rhetoric about freedom, liberty, and democracy into war propaganda for inspiring popular support. To advance this claim, Jennings scrutinizes colonial dealings in slave trade and Native American affairs and concludes that the revolution, while it freed the colonies from British rule, did not bring the virtuous democracy of our traditional histories into being-it merely created a new white ruling class. Therefore, the American Revolution, while worthy of study, is just one in a series of small steps toward a more perfect liberty. Many revisionist histories fail because they support an ideology at the expense of objectivity. Very important book, should be required in history class

Both of us loved this book and we bought a copy for a friend who also thought it was great. I couldn't believe the 3-star rating it got, but saw one reviewer found it "turgid." We found it an easy read, but we are both college graduates. More important the information and analysis was exciting and outstanding, full of connections and insights that we were never taught in school. Jennings made so much sense of the reality and dynamics of the American Revolution by including the usually-omitted "Indians." Thank you, Mr. Jennings.

Not Your High School American History Book

American history never made sense to me and now I know why. As voltaire said, "History is the lie commonly agreed upon" and that's what was taught to me in school and is now taught to my son. Francis Jennings tries to change all that with a "revisionist history" asking the questions that when posed by students in school are ignored by teachers. How did material progress evolve in a country that was already populated by over 25 million inhabitants? Who owned america? How did we shift from a policy of cooperation with the indians (a la Thanksgiving) to one of aggression. How much of our revolution was political and how much economic? How did relations between colonialists and Great Britain deteriorate so quickly after so many years of harmony? This book is an overview of much that Jennings has written in earlier books with some further thoughts and ideas. What is most enjoyable is that he is willing to speculate, to question accepted fact and wisdom, to go out on a limb, to offer an opinion on various events, characters and situations. For the first time american history became real to me: the people human, the events complex and contradictory, the struggle for independence understandable. In the end a history not much different from what has been happening recently in Washington. The prose can be turgid; parts of it are somewhat academic but Jennings moves the story along and makes for me (a non-historian) very telling points. He left this reader with much to think about. I have since gone out and bought his other books and will be reading those in 2001. A good balancing piece after this book is A Struggle For Power by Theodore Draper.

Get the REAL American History Here

I loved this book! It is the most realistic, no-nonsence presentation of the American colonial story as I have ever see, in or out of school. Jennings tells it like it was, sans the "romance" and "heroics" often portrayed in school texts and by those historians who want to cast a rosy glow on the American story; he portrays the struggle for empire (not just "freedom"), depicting not just the challenges with which American settlers confronted England, but he tells of the struggles between the varied inhabitants of the early colonies, from the landed genty to slaves, from the native Indians to the land-seeking westward travelers. There are stories both amazing and cruel in this book, and Jennings pulls no punches in calling a thief a thief (even if one did become President) and a tyrant a tyrant (even though one became Secretary of State). Jennings' report is told in just plain "straight-up" language, without the usual laudatory embellishments. In the end, I was still proud to be an American, seeing how this nation was put together by real human beings... some heros, some not.
The only fault I found with this book was the manner in which some historic episodes and events got repeated from one chapter to the next. True, Jennings may have been casting a new light, fresh discussion, on a previously-discussed event, but this repetition sometimes seem to interfer with the logical progression of the historic chronology Nevertheless, I recommend this book to anyone who wants to know what reeeally happened in the formation of this nation.

Emotion, Heartfelt, Amazing...oh and I LOVE Mr. Wilde!

There are so many feeling I feel when I think about Just A Kiss, such as Worth Waiting For, Amazing, A Must Read, I LOVE COOPER!, EMOTIONAL, etc...

I just love this story so much. I believe Morgan Rayne did take a different approach with the 3rd addition to Spring Towers series and she did a wonderful job!

Victoria was such a spit fire, kick your ass, independent woman in the first two Spring Towers stories and we finally were able to meet Victoria and it was well worth the wait, let me tell you! I loved that not only is Victoria such an amazing woman but she has such a dark, sad secret that is keeping her from falling in love with the perfect man, Cooper Wilde (fanning myself, yummy!)! I know Cooper is a pain in the ass in the beginning, but how can you not immediately fall in love with him?! Not only does he have his own secrets, he wants to make himself better for Victoria, a woman that he disliked in the beginning and now will not stop fighting for.

I seriously could go on and on about all of things that I just truly loved about this story, but then I would be just giving the whole book away and I can't do that...so...I am going to tell anyone reading this review that if you have not read A Different Kind Of Fairy Tale, Let Me Love You, you are missing out...but if you pass up reading Just A Kiss you are crazy! This series is great and I think everyone would love them! So what are you waiting for? Go & READ!

What can I say, words just seem to leave me. I have been waiting for Victoria's story for months. I was anxious to read. I knew it would be good, but it exceeded my expectations. Morgan rayne does not let you down with her stories. She has a way of bringing characters to life, drawing your emotions. I definitely did not expect Cooper to be as perfect as he was. We all want that guy who can pull all emotions from us, but in the end is there for you. As for Victoria, it is nice to see a strong willed, and yet sensitive female learn to let loose and allow the right guy to help her heal. I love how Stella in a subtle way still played a nice role to help her sister. It gives yous that feeling of family and unity. I also can't wait to read Amy's story. There is more there than the brief glimpse we got from her brother.

I will definitely recommend this to family and friends I know love to read. The spring towers series has been great and a little reminder of happiness being out there if we allow it in our lives no matter the rough patches.

Five stars because she deserves it. She took a strong willed female character and build a story that pulls multiple emotions from you, surprises you along the way, and still gives you a happy ending and wanting more. I can't wait to read more of her books. Loved them. Have to read it one day. So good that I already know I won't put it down.

WORTH IT!

I have been waiting for Just a Kiss to be published for a while now, and let me tell you, it was worth the wait. I fell in love with the Spring Towers series and have been checking Morgan's Facebook page every week to see when this book would be released. I bought and read it in the same day, I could not put it down.

The story was fast paced and I love how it is told from both of the characters perspectives. I loved the secret we find out about Victoria, it just goes to show you how strong of a woman she is and Coop is so perfect for her. I love how the author brings back characters from the other books in the series and you get an update on what is happening in their lives.

Morgan Rayne has turned into one of my favorite author's and cant wait to see what she comes out with next. I would love it for it to be a story about Coop's sister Amy, I loved her! THANK YOU MORGAN RAYNE for another great book for me to add to my collection of books I read over and over again.
